Courage to Change
Ashfield Fair Share Trust has launched a community, schools and young people’s project called ‘Courage to Change’ which lets young people from Sutton In Ashfield share the message that they do not approve of underage drinking and anti social behaviour, or the irresponsible use or sales of alcohol.
A competition has taken place where children and young people have designed The ‘Courage to Change’ logo which will be used on window stickers and on certificates for Shops, Retailers and Public Houses whom sell alcohol in the Ashfield Fair Share Area. The winning logo was created by Elizabeth Blythe from Sutton in Ashfield.
If a business displays the logo then it has pledged to sell alcohol responsibly and to follow a code of conduct to carry the logo. Should the retailer fail to meet the code of conduct or if the logo is misused then the logo may be revoked at the discretion of Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Trading Standards Service.
The logo will help parents to identify responsible shops to let their children go to and will also deter young people from purchasing alcohol and other age restricted items.
The website address is www.couragetochange.co.uk at which you can learn more about the project and how it works and watch the short DVD featuring views from the local community, the site should be up and running in August.
