Bramley Apple Fund

We aim to raise £10,000, to provide over 200 trees a year to plant in community spaces and school gardens.

The original Bramley apple tree – planted more than 200 years ago and the “mother” of all modern Bramley apples – is dying, however the Bramley Fund is aiming to ensure our local apple with a global name is made safe into the future.

Roger Merryweather the great grandson of Henry Merryweather, who was granted permission to take cuttings from the tree to sell, has set up a legacy fund with the help of Nottinghamshire Community Foundation.

The Bramley Fund has already given away over 100 trees to 30 local charities and community groups and aims to build a permanent endowment fund giving away more Bramley trees to feed our communities for many years to come

If we can raise £10,000 through the Foundation, the interest from this fund could provide over 200 trees a year to plant in community spaces and school gardens.

It will also encourage all members of the community, particularly children, to adopt an apple tree, support it’s growth and to share the produce.

Currently the interest from the fund provides £500 worth of trees each year for local communities and we aim to make this £1,000 per year.
